ONE 1

What does it mean to be one.  Paul gave us a great example of what it means to be one.  Not only am I to be an individual, but I am also to be united.  Paul said...

Philippians 2:2

New International Version (NIV)
2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

I like this.  I have thought long and hard about this passage.  How can I be like minded in Christ?  I think that being like minded doubles the effort put forth by any organization or team.  Being like minded helps us make a touchdown... to make a basket...to win someone for Jesus...to make an impact on the world...focus, unity...oneness!  I think that the best way for me to do this is to follow the leader with the greatest influence to make something happen.  That just so happens to be Jesus!  He is the greatest game changer in any arena...I am just lucky enough to be on the same team.

I started looking at that and wondered what it means to be part of this team.  Who is on the team?  What is the team name?  Who are those on the team with me?  Sometimes I like to look at this as part of a football team.  I am the quarterback for the team...this role is part of the offensive line.  We are part of the Nazarene football team which is part of the "global" "Christian" church or church Universal.  The apostles creed calls us the catholic church...Ask me about this if you want and I will explain it to you better...  But any way.  I not only want my offense to win, but my whole team to win.  So as I was thinking about this theme of one, I was thinking about our Nazarene brothers and sisters.  Not the international church, but the local churches.  Pastor Jim Ballenger and I discussed that we would really like to encourage one another and lift each other up... Sometimes the quarterback gets tired and needs someone to help lift each other's arms up like Aaron and Joshua did for Moses.  So we decided to do this first at Harris Chapel...As I prayed about it and talked to the Coach, He opened the door for me to talk to Marty Ballard and we decided to play the next "game" at Yorktown Church of the Nazarene on January 29th at 6:00 p.m.  This will be a great time of encouragement and prayer and giving Satan a black eye.  There will be times of prayer, praise, and passages...of scripture I mean. :)  Dr. Phil Rogers will be speaking...South Side will be leading the worship...and you will be the participates leading the way in prayer and supplication for God to do a great work not only in your life, but while you are there, you will be joining us in lifting up the name of Jesus and getting great encouragement as you fellowship with other believers who are getting ready to do battle on the front line...
But pastor, they are at another church.     Yes they are, but they are still a part of the same team and I can see us growing with one another for a greater purpose to be a force for change in Delaware County and beyond.
I ask that you pray for us and pray for the services....pray for you pastor and the pastors on the district as we come together and seek God's face in the coming year and ask that we be united...or as Paul said it...

being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

God bless,

Andy
